The heat and humidity could not keep Azusa Pacific’s Lauren Jimison down as she raced away from the rest of the field in the women’s 5000 meter run.
Jimison finished the race in 17:28.34 which is a minute and a half off the NAIA record set in 2005. Jimison was also the winner of the 1000 meter run that was held Thursday evening.
Second place finisher Suzanne Cornwell of CSU San Marcos completed the race in 17:35.65. Jimison and Cornwell had a brief battle before Jimison pulled away to retain the lead until the end of the race.
