Senior Eric Whalen of Concordia Oregon wins shot put, sets new PR

Throwing the shot put 18.47 meters, and setting a new personal record, Concordia Oregon’s Eric Whalen won today’s Men’s Shot Put event. Max Perry from Southern Oregon placed second with 17.77 meters.

For Whalen, winning was a huge relief. “I’ve been working really hard at this for four years, and I finally got it. I’m just really happy,” said the senior.

Perry qualified for finals after his first round of his flight, throwing in the 17-meter range. He made his second-place score on the second round of the first flight.

“I don’t like losing,” said Perry, “but if I’m going to lose to anyone, it’d be [Whalen].”

Third place went to Justin Roberts from Hastings with 17.70 meters. Also from Hastings, Cody Weber placed fourth with 17.44 meters and Darien Moore of Valley City placed fifth with 17.35 meters.
