Hurdles strengthen lead decathlete

Men’s decathlon frontrunner Robbie Haynie, an Eastern Oregon senior, won a second event Friday morning, when he completed the 110-meter hurdles in 14.95 seconds.

Haynie finished first in the first heat and overall. Casey Stevick from Azusa Pacific took second place with a 15.12-second race. Morningside’s Andy Dougherty finished in third at 15.14 seconds.

Adam Thompkins, the Westmont senior who had been in second place, took 15.41 seconds, landing him in seventh place for the event and reducing the distance between first and second place for the decathlon to a mere three points. Thompkins had 4,417 points after Friday’s 110-meter hurdles, and third-place Stevick had 4,413 points.
